Who protects the stupid?

I have talked a bit about Critters of late I guess,  for whatever reason that is kind of what I am into right now.  One thing that I have periodically thought about is that while we have come across all kinds of bad things in terms of bugs, ie Scorpions, Black Widows and other large nasty spiders and flying critters, that after nearly a year and a half we have had the exceptional luck of not coming across any poisonous snakes.  And just because it is Winter doesn't mean a hell of a lot.  Packing up from our last place as Lisa was tossing a brick we use as a tire stop into the back of the Bronco, she just happened to look at the bottom of it.  There she saw a small Scorpion.  Had she not looked, it would still be wandering around somewhere inside.  The place we were the most likely to run into a snake and where they were the most prolific was on the Mexican Border.  Nope, didn,t see any.  One reason I am beginning to understand has to do with our little buddy that showed up morning, noon and night.  I can't say Fred had any love for us, he just liked to hang out with us.  After awhile several of his buddies, (or family how do you tell) also showed up.  Of course we had excess bugs around because of the lights but even though, ever since we have seen a few in other places, they just have not warmed up as close as Fred did.  Here's Fred

And here is what Fred does
